I hail from the great potato state of Idaho. There, I have cultivated a love for trying out new things. In high school, I took a variety of electives that included journalism, music, and drafting. During the summer, I took the classes I had the least interest in so as to free up space for the classes that drew my attention during the school year. The summer of her senior year saw me traveling to China for an educational tour with my Chinese teacher and classmate. It was a magical whirlwind of curiosity.
When I went to university, I double-majored in English, with a creative writing option and Visual Communication Design. I found during my university career that being able to communicate effectively was the best possible thing that I could do. I also discovered my passion for editing, as it allowed me to combine my love for learning with my love of mentoring people.
After university, I felt China calling to me and found a teaching job. I set goals for myself to use teaching as a way to grow and improve my time management, mentoring, and communication skills. All these skills were put to the test constantly as I struggled to learn the local language in a city that does not primarily speak English.
Now, I split my time between working at Opera News and hosting pub quizzes. I manage my time to the absolute fullest and am continuously looking for new challenges and opportunities.
